What does the Skeleton Key & Keyhole Mean to Me? 

 

I’ve been asked this a thousand times and had a lot of time to really think about this and observe.  Here is my personal conclusion.

 

Balance - A desirable point between two or more opposite forces.  An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain steady.

Masculine (the skeleton key)– penetrating, determination, productive, strength, focused, assertive, logic, results- oriented, structure, doing.

Feminine (the keyhole)– receptive, intuitive, nurturing, compassion, helpfulness to others, values, collaborative, process-oriented, open, being.

 

Each person has Masculine and Feminine energy, regardless of the gender of the physical body.  Even sexless entities such as companies, organizations, groups, societies and corporations contain qualities of Masculine and Feminine energies.  Right now there is a pull to rebalance these energies within ourselves, and in the world because the highest potential that can be achieved with either Masculine or Feminine energy is in cooperation with each other.

 

In the pull to rebalance these energies within us, I believe people are drawn to skeleton keys and keyholes, a deeper meaning, and the various designs incorporating these elements.  Perhaps these symbols inspire a balance of these energies inside of the person wearing them.  People looking to be more nurturing or intuitive may be drawn to the keyhole (Feminine Energy) designs.  Or perhaps they are looking for more focus or strength and may be drawn more to the skeleton keys (Masculine Energy).  Or perhaps you are inspired by the balance of the two, in which case, you may be drawn to those designs that incorporate both.
